Developer This Land™ has submitted a planning application for a new scheme at Malta Road in Cambridge. The proposed scheme will comprise of four, three-bed townhouses and five, one-and-two bed apartments along with associated external hard and soft landscaping.
The project will see the adoption of a contemporary style of architecture combining masonry and zinc cladding for the exteriors. The buildings feature large glazing to create light filled interiors and curved zinc roofs to provide a softer visual appearance. The scheme will see the creation of on-site parking as well as the provision of secure, undercover cycle storage.
The project will see the demolition of the former Malta Road Family Centre, operated by Cambridgeshire County Council. Following the relocation of the County Council’s services the single-story brick building has become redundant.
The planning application looks to update an existing planning application for the site which was approved in January 2019. The main change to the application being the position of the townhouses which has been moved half a metre back from the site’s northern boundary.
Malta Road, which is situated to the east of the city centre, is a residential area and is a short walk to shops and facilities on Mill Road. There is pedestrian, cycle and vehicular access northwards onto Mill Road and pedestrian and cycle access westwards onto Coleridge Road, both of which are well served with public transport. The development is also within a short walk from primary and secondary schools as well as local medical practices.
